Why Sensitive Skin Should Avoid The Use Of Essential Oils
When prone to sensitivity, it is advised to always take a closer look at the ingredients contained in the skincare products used. This could help to avoid substances, which may include essential oils, that might irritate the skin
There is no specific diagnosis for sensitive skin. The symptoms vary and oftentimes sensitivity affects fairer skin tones. However, this is not always the case. Sensitive skin is susceptible to a variety of environmental influences, is prone to redness and irritations. This can be a result of obvious reasons, but, at times, the factors seem too unimportant that they are not even considered:
- contact with cleaning detergents
- exposure to sunlight
- cold temperatures and wind
- mechanical or chemical stimuli
- diet
- and many more...
Unfortunately, although we love essential oils and many of them possess wonderful properties for the skin, there are also times when sensitive skin can have a negative reaction to them. Pure oils can, for instance, stimulate blood circulation, which may trigger redness when the skin is prone to sensitivity.
The best thing to do is to try it out and start with products that have been specially tailored towards the needs of sensitive skin.
Sensitive skin does not need any additional stimuli!
We, therefore, only use purely natural, organic and plant-based ingredients that nourish, calm and strengthen the skin. We do not use (synthetically produced) additives that can cause irritation, such as:
- alcohol
- perfumes
- preservatives
We make sure to use only a few effective ingredients so that stressed skin can breathe easy.
Essential oils vs. hydrosols
Since essential oils are not always well tolerated by sensitive skin types, we prefer to use hydrosols in our product formulas. What is a hydrosol you ask? It is a by-product of essential oils that is extracted via steam distillation. That is why we like to call them the "gentle relatives of essential oils".
In the past, this liquid was simply thrown away. Today, we know that the extracts have very similar effects to that of their respective essential oil counterparts - the only difference being that they are less irritating and, therefore, better tolerated by the skin. You can also use pure hydrosols, for example, as compresses or for inhalation.
Our Skincare Set for Sensitive Skin only contains products that provide your skin with what it needs in a gentle manner:
Toning Moisturiser Calming Chamomile: This toner is a real blessing and has calming and strengthening effects whilst providing an even appearance. It consists exclusively of pure extracts from organically grown plants with skin-caring ingredients and can be used in a variety of ways for cleansing, make-up removal, face and body mist, as a facial tonic, mild aftershave, after-sun spray and, of course, as a gentle moisturiser.
Our insider tip: Place the toner in the fridge. If you want to get rid of dark circles very quickly, spray a small amount of it on a cotton pad and place it on the puffy bags under the eyes for a few minutes. The swelling decreases immediately and you feel wonderfully revived and refreshed!
Beauty Oil Fragrance-Free For Sensitive & Normal Skin: This face oil does not contain any fragrances or essential oils which lowers the risk of possible irritation from occurring. It helps the skin to regain its balance through regenerative and protective oils and offers lipid protection that still allows the skin to breathe.
Your skin will be perfectly equipped to face any possible difficult times ahead and it can finally breathe a sigh of relief, relax and regain its balance!
