Impurities Skin at 30: Facts & Tips
Puberty has long passed and yet you are still struggling with breakouts? You're out of your 20s but skin concerns are on the increase? Read here to find out how to get rid of impurities after 30.
If you've never been faced with skin concerns then count yourself lucky. But be warned: once 30 hits, the body undergoes a lot of changes. Now is the time to treat your skin to some much needed TLC.
Factors that contribute to impurities
Are the signs of skin aging becoming more visible, irritation is increasing and skin impurities have returned? Two words: diet and hormones. Environmental influences, lifestyle and the use of unsuitable skincare can also play a contributing factor.
Good news first: A lot can be accomplished by using relatively easy remedies.
Now, the bad news: Unfortunately, we have no control over certain factors, such as genetic predisposition, hormones and the like. No singular solution may be able to treat the skincare concerns across the board.
Determining the causes
Reasons for skin impurities can be traced back to factors, such as stress, sleep deprivation, alcohol, nicotine, etc. They have a negative impact on the skin, especially in the long run. You have certainly heard advice on the topics of "sleep deprivation" and "avoiding stress".
In trying to determine the causes for unbalanced skin, pay close attention to what may be triggering it: does it occur a week prior to your period or after a long night out consuming alcohol? If not, we have a few tips on how to narrow down the possible causes of impure skin:
Avoid sugar highs & dairy
The effect that carbohydrates and sugar have on our blood glucose level could very possibly be the trigger for increased impurities. Try to avoid sugar and any food that contains white flour. Instead, opt for a sugar substitute, such as xylitol, and swap out white flour for whole-wheat alternatives. Dairy amplifies inflammation in the body and can lead to increased breakouts. Plant-based alternatives are widely available these days.
Try to avoid food with a high glycemic index for 2 weeks straight and see how your skin reacts.
Good fats vs. bad fats
Good fats include nuts, avocado, cold-pressed oils (linseed oil, wheat germ oil, etc.). These have a positive impact on the appearance of our complexions. Refined fats, such as margarine and fried foods should be avoided because they cause inflammation and clog the pores.
Hydration is key
It goes without saying that our bodies need hydration to function at full capacity. Consuming 2 - 3 litres of water a day should be the goal. Water challenge accepted?
Nutrition meets beauty
Fresh fruits and vegetables in all colours, legumes, nuts and seeds for increased micronutrients and zinc (pumpkin seeds, cashews, lentils, quinoa), antioxidants (blueberries, tomatoes, green tea, ...) and the list goes on. Nutrition is key when it comes to maintaining a flawless complexion.
Our beauty tips: Probiotic nutrition, fermented food (sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha, yoghurt) and curcurma (golden milk) are excellent for maintaining a healthy-looking complexion.
Proper skincare
Gentle, pore-refining cleansing and a weekly scrub and mask can work wonders. It is essential to remove make-up in the evening which allows the skin to breathe and recuperate. The cleansing products used should not strip moisture from the skin therefore we advise using lukewarm water to rinse the face. Our Oil Cleansing Method is a great way to cleanse the skin because it does not involve any surfactants, provides a pore-refining cleanse and nourishes the skin. Naturally, one should not opt for products that may clog the pores (beeswax or mineral oils) or disrupt the protective barrier. Preservatives in cosmetics can lead to imbalances and irritation. Oftentimes, less is more. That is why we forego the use of any synthetic additives in our product formulas.
Pure botanical face oils are great for restoring the skin barrier, rebalancing the complexion and even have a positive effect on oily skin. They allow the skin to breathe and supply it with essential fatty acids. Many of these oils possess an antibacterial effect.
